MGB V8 Modsport Race Car - LS3 Conversion
This MGB V8 is a well-known competitor in the UK MG, Modsport and V8 racing scene. Having prepared and run the car for a number of seasons, Competition Classics is now undertaking its biggest development yet – installing an LS3 V8 crate engine and Tremec transmission, with a target output of approximately 550 bhp.
MGB V8 LS3 Engine & Tremec Gearbox Conversion
We have built, developed and run this MGB V8 race car for a number of years. At the end of the 2025 season, its highly developed Rover V8 suffered a major engine failure.
Rather than replace it with another highly stressed Rover V8, we agreed with the owner to take the car in a new direction. An LS3 crate engine was selected, together with a Tremec transmission, creating an exciting engineering project for the Competition Classics workshop.
The new engine and transmission have been shipped from the USA, and our work now involves engineering the installation into the MGB chassis, including engine and gearbox mounting, drivetrain, cooling, exhaust, fuel and associated systems.
With a target of approximately 550 bhp, the finished MGB should combine significantly increased performance with improved reliability – and become an even more formidable Modsport race car.
Bespoke Historic Race Car Engineering
Projects such as this MGB demonstrate the engineering capability behind Competition Classics. From engine and transmission conversions to bespoke fabrication, suspension, drivetrain development and complete race preparation, we develop competition cars around the individual requirements of the car, driver and championship.
